Generally, I give myself a 6-month window to complete commissions, but it depends upon many factors and may take more or less time. Please let me know f you are hoping to receive your commission sooner for a gift or special occasion, and I will do my best to accommodate when able.

We’ll start with you emailing me your favorite photographs of the subject, and I’ll let you know which ones will translate well to a painting. Having a clear, high-resolution photo to work from is essential for the success of your portrait. Here are some things to think about:
-Ideally, the images have a clear light source, either outside with natural light or, if indoors, next to a window or side lamp is great.
-The flash tends to wash out details that are needed to capture the likeness of a subject, so photographs taken in dimly lit rooms are not good reference material.
-Photographs where there is light and shadow on the face provide the necessary colors and detail necessary for a beautiful portrait.
-
It has been my experience that this does not make for the best portraits. If the light source is different (which it invariably will be) then it can create disharmony and a feeling of something being ‘off’ in the painting. Making up shadows and highlights to try to make it work will never be as cohesive as working from a unified reference.
